Slice 'n' Brew

New Website (UI + Dev)
Slice ‘n’ Brew, a popular pizza restaurant in Nottingham, quickly gained a reputation as the go-to spot for pizza, thanks to its unique atmosphere and trendy vibe. However, their initial online presence—a rudimentary Squarespace site—failed to capture the energy and appeal of their brand.
Recognizing the need for a more dynamic and accurate digital representation, Slice ‘n’ Brew partnered with me to create a website that would resonate with their growing audience. This collaboration involved taking them through a comprehensive discovery process, followed by the full design, development, and deployment of their new website.

Highlights

a Captivating First Impression

To truly convey the vibrant atmosphere of Slice ‘n’ Brew, we decided to replace the standard hero photograph with a dynamic hero video. This decision was pivotal in giving users an immersive glimpse into the restaurant before they even began scrolling. The video showcases the restaurant in action, capturing the essence of the brand and setting the tone for the user experience.

From a design and UX perspective, autoplay videos can be tricky, often risking distraction rather than engagement. To mitigate this, I implemented lightweight overlays and subtle noise reduction techniques, ensuring that while the video is impactful, it doesn’t overwhelm the user.

Impact: The animated hero section has been particularly well-received, with users noting that it immediately communicates the restaurant's vibe, making them feel connected before they even visit.

Engaging Users with Interactivity

To align with Slice ‘n’ Brew’s cool and playful brand image, I introduced interactive visual elements throughout the site. A standout feature is the large callout menu section, which prominently displays the food and drinks menus. On first glance, these sections feature bold color blocks and strong typography in the brand’s signature colors. However, on hover, the section transforms, revealing images that represent the corresponding menu, adding a layer of interactivity that engages users and enhances the browsing experience.

Impact: This feature has become a talking point among customers, who frequently mention it as a memorable aspect of their website experience. It not only adds to the visual appeal but also improves usability by making the menus more accessible.

About the project

Slice ‘n’ Brew had already built a strong local following, known as the go-to place for pizza in Nottingham. However, their initial digital presence didn’t reflect the trendy, vibrant atmosphere they were known for. My role in this project was to bridge that gap by creating a website that would enhance their online identity and extend their reach.
Working closely with the restaurant owner, I led the project through every stage—beginning with discovery and initial concept development, moving through wireframes and design, and culminating in the development and launch of the final site on Webflow. The primary objective was to develop a website that not only looked visually appealing but also offered a user-friendly experience that mirrored the brand’s growing reputation.
By focusing on key aspects like dynamic content, interactive features, and consistent brand alignment, we successfully created a digital platform that resonates with Slice ‘n’ Brew’s audience. The new website has been praised by customers for its engaging design and ease of use, and it has led to increased user engagement, reflecting the project’s success in aligning the restaurant’s digital and physical presence.
This project exemplifies how thoughtful design and strategic development can elevate a brand’s online presence. By capturing the essence of Slice ‘n’ Brew’s atmosphere and translating it into a cohesive digital experience, we were able to create a website that not only meets but exceeds the expectations of their growing audience.
